Award Winning Designs By Apropos_Image

Q: What direction do you feel design is moving towards in general terms?

A: Clean, clear lines are popular, coupled with workable designs that accommodate everyday needs. Form and function can easily go hand-in-hand, so long as designers apply them in equal measure.

Q: What are the key influencing elements at present?

We are completely influenced by the demands of the client, but in all our bespoke work we offer sustainability. Our designs are built to last, and we are proud of our classic structures, such as the glasshouses at Hampton Court Palace. Indeed, our very first structure is still standing, over 70 years after it was first erected. Sustainability is now important more than ever, with both financial and environmental concerns at the forefront of public debate.

Q: A designer’s work is so diverse – how do you manage to hold down a career and a life?

A: Design work is very demanding but extremely rewarding, and family and friends provide a perfect antidote.

Q: And key trends that we should be aware of?

A: We aim to ensure our designs rise above the inevitable fall that results from any trend. By offering classic design elements in our contemporary structures Apropos has a heritage dating back eight decades. As a result, we hope we’ve proved that there’s nothing temporary about contemporary.

Q: If you could offer one piece of advice when it comes to design schemes, what would it be?

A: Irrespective of the style, make a design workable and future proof. The best and most admired designs are those that work well with their surroundings and stand the test of time.

Q: How important do you feel Design Awards are as recognition of designers’ talents and achievements?

A: Design Awards are highly important in recognising the teamwork that goes into successful collaborative work. Apropos’ short listing is simply not just about our bespoke, glass, design engineering in a building, it is about how it interacts with the design of the building as a whole, which includes the work of the architect and the aspirations of the client. It is also about the whole team at Apropos, who took the initial glass design, made it technically workable and, ultimately, a reality.

Q: How do you relax?

A: Usually with a very cold beer.

Q: What are your aims and goals for the next twelve months?

A: To continue meeting the exacting demands of clients, whilst raising our standards even higher.
