Be Our Guest (this Mother’s Day)Published on 14th March 2015
Be. Our. Guest! Be our guest! Put our service to the test,
Tie a napkin round your neck cherie, and we’ll provide the rest…
Ah, you can’t beat a bit of a Disney singalong! And with Mother’s Day this Sunday it’s time to treat your mum like a Disney Princess. No; we don’t mean that you should lock her in scary tower with nothing but a hairy Beast and singing crockery for company (although, that might appeal to some!); it’s time for a bit of pampering, so get in the kitchen, get cooking and serve up a Mother’s Day feast to remember.
Slap bang in the middle of March, Mother’s Day is one of our favourite celebrations at Apropos. If the weather is willing, it’s the perfect time to get the family out for a picnic or a lovely spring walk, and if it’s not (as it sadly looks might be the case this year) there’s still plenty to enjoy through the conservatory windows; the last of the snowdrops; the first of the daffodils; crocuses in abundance; pansies; primroses; camellias; and all of those new leaves and all of that budding blossom. With all the browns turning to greens, we can’t think of a better backdrop for a meal that says ‘thank you, Mum’.
Whether you’re going the traditional route (might we suggest seasonal apple & celeriac soup to start, followed by roast spring lamb with whole baked carrots, buttered broccoli and the potatoes of your choice, with a zingy desert of biscuit based lemon meringue pie, or a chocolate and raspberry tart), or planning an elegant afternoon tea (cucumber sandwiches, fresh-baked scones with jam and clotted cream, Victoria sponge cake, quichelets, cheesy scones, and rainbow jam tarts for a touch old-school taste), part of the pampering and part of the pleasure comes from setting the scene.
We don’t say thank you enough – especially not to our parents. It’s too easy to take what they do for granted, so this year why not do something special? If you have an Apropos bespoke conservatory, it is the perfect place to be the host with the most; using your garden as a backdrop you can make something really special, blurring the lines between indoors and out, with flowers, and light, and a guest of honour: dear old Mum.
Don’t be a Beast of a child this Mothering Sunday; use your Apropos to do something beautiful. Get in touch if we can help with anything at all!
