Design Your Dream Kitchen Extension

Published on 15th May 2015
The common consensus is that the kitchen is the most important room in the house. While we might compromise on smaller bedrooms or darker bathrooms, or learn to do without a separate dining area, in the kitchen ‘compromise’ is a dirty word. One of the things we’ve learnt over the years at Apropos however, is that just as one man’s trash can be another man’s treasure, so one person’s dream kitchen can be another’s screaming nightmare! This makes finding that all-elusive arcadia of kitchens more than a tad tricky when house-hunting, so it’s hardly surprising that when it comes to home renovations, the majority of the time the kitchen is at the heart of the plans.

We might have mentioned it before… once, or maybe twice… but among the very many benefits of building with Apropos, such as our stunning good looks and sparkling personalities, is that all of our structures are bespoke. So, whatever you have in mind for your home, as long as it doesn’t defy the laws of physics, you can be pretty certain that we’ll be able to help you out.

We’ve covered the practicalities of kitchen design in the past, focussing on the importance of functionality, space, lighting and storage, so we’ll not go over them again here. Instead, we’ll take a look at the aesthetic theory of design, and show that kitchens can have more flexibility than you might think.

Kitchen Designs with a Difference
Turning Japanese:

If you fancy an oriental flavour why not try your hand at origami? This monolithic island by designer Karim Rashid does nothing if not make a statement!

Metal Micky:

If you want a low-maintenance kitchen, you might want to consider the professional look and go all-out stainless steel. It can risk being a little bit cold and clinical, but it’s easy to clean and with the right accents can be warmly personalised.

Glamour Puss:

If ‘Glitz’ is your middle name we would first have to ask; ‘what were you parents thinking?!’ before pointing you in the direction of this glamorous Andrew John Lloyd design. You could view it as a way of making your meal times shine!

Science Lab Chic:

There’s not a huge amount of storage here, but this kitchen designed by the Dutch electronics company Philips was made to ‘address the ecological issues of the post-industrial world.’ We’re not quite sure how, but it’s attractive in its own unique way.

Home Sweet Home:

For something a little less outré, but equally unique, in a friendly, light-filled, homely kind of way, how about a design similar to this one, by Apropos?

Whatever you want from your dream kitchen, the bespoke nature of Apropos means that we can help you to achieve it. We work to your dimensions, your requirements and your tastes. We create all our own parts, so there are no limitations when it comes to shape or style, and we construct all of our commissions at our factory to make sure that everything is perfect before it reaches you, saving time, mess and stress on site. So if you have a kitchen dream in mind, make it a reality with Apropos.

Furthermore, we know plenty of the country’s best kitchen furniture designers and are more than happy to put you in touch.
