Are you in the mood for lurrrrve? It’s that time of year when we all go a little bit silly, buying flowers, splashing out on chocolates, and dressing up in underwear that would make our parents blush! Here at Apropos we think Valentine’s Day is still a time for romance, and there’s no place like home for curling up with the one you love.
Glazing isn’t often associated with romance – thankfully! – but conservatories, orangeries and other glazed extensions can actually make the most beautiful romantic retreats, the trick is to use the assets available, and one of the biggest assets of glazed extensions is the mood lighting. When it’s dark outside, the combination of candles and the reflective glazed surface could make your orangery magical. With candles glittering against the dark orangery glass, you’ll create your very own starscape.
If artificial stars aren’t for you, you might have more of a taste for the real ones. Make your conservatory as comfy as possible, bring in some drinks and nibbles, put on some music, turn off the lights, and lie back and look at the stars. If you want to impress, do a little homework first – do you know your Hercules from your Pegasus?
If you don’t use your conservatory regularly, then it can make a fabulous spot for a romantic nocturnal picnic. Spread a blanket on the floor and scatter some cushions, then fill up a hamper with some simple but special foods. While oysters tend to be the Valentine’s choice, cheese, grapes, champagne, chocolate, and strawberries are all supposed aphrodisiacs. For a more outdoorsy vibe, open your folding-sliding doors so you can cool down before getting hot under the collar.
It might be February, but there’s no reason why you can’t make the most of your garden for romancing. Set up a heater, fire pit or chimnea, and take your meal outside. Fairy lights can bring magic to even the most unkempt gardens. A winter barbeque could be fabulous, just bring some blankets big enough for two to snuggle into, and have the conservatory doors ready for your return inside.
Many couples say that they’ve grown beyond Valentine’s Day, but showing you care never gets old, and there’s nothing like a love nest to get you in the mood for a little canoodling, so whether for February 14th or beyond, dress up your Apropos conservatory with candles, flowers, soft lighting and even softer throws, and have it ready for romance. You never know where it might take you.
