Oh, we do love summer, and despite the unpromising start, this one is turning into a corker! It was summers like this that used to give conservatories – in fact, all glass constructions – a bad name, but with the fabulous technological advances of recent years, there is nothing better than a beautiful glass extension for making the best of the British sunlight.
While we all know that too much of that big yellow shiny ball can be a bad thing, it’s a rare person who complains that their home is filled with too much light. As well as making life a brighter place, an influx of light into the home can have real implications on your health, your state of mind, and your bank balance.
Seasonal Affective Disorder affects two million people throughout the United Kingdom; caused by low levels of natural light, which prevents the hypothalamus (the brain’s emotional control centre) from functioning fully, increased exposure to natural light has been found to be the most effective cure. Apropos can’t extend the summer or improve the weather, but our skylights, curtain walling and constructions can help to increase the amount of sunlight that enters your home.
While it’s there, that natural light also provides a goodly Vitamin D boost, helping to increase the health of your hair, skin, teeth and bones – particularly important for babies, young children and pregnant or breastfeeding women.
Switching off the lights in favour of making use of the sun can also save the average homeowner up to £200 per year. Ok, so it will take a while for that to pay for your Apropos extension, but on the plus side, well… as well as the savings you’ll have an Apropos extension! And that’s a plus, if ever we heard one!
Improved construction techniques and glass coatings mean that glazed buildings are now significantly more thermally efficient than once they were. Indeed, Apropos structures have an ‘A’ efficiency rating, meaning that they prevent heat from both entering and leaving the building, keeping the ambient room temperature exactly as you want it, without additional expense.
We may be biased – glass is our business – but at Apropos we think that the lighter and brighter a home the better, and we’re perfectly positioned to help you achieve it.
