New Year, New You – New Home!

Lean-to Kitchen Extension by Apropos

This Lean-to Kitchen Extension by Apropos blends home and garden beautifully; making it the perfect excuse to get out there and grow!

As the old year draws to a close most of us find ourselves indulging in a bit of heartfelt reflection. We consider the decisions we’ve made, the loved ones we’ve lost, the friends we’ve found… the extra few inches added to our waist lines and the gym membership we paid for but utilised only once.

This time it’ll be different! We think.

This time we’ll stick with it! We declare.

This time we’ll lose weight, quit smoking, cut back on alcohol, exercise more, visit our grandparents, weed the garden, learn an instrument, spend less money, get a new job, volunteer for a local charity and be kind to strangers! You just watch us, World!

… But… Well… We needn’t start straight away!

You see, the problem with New Year’s resolutions is that most of us opt to give up or change something that we secretly like doing, so even if we do manage to stop eating chocolate until the temptation of Easter proves too much, it’s not really a sustainable situation. The trick to an achievable resolution is to choose something that gives us as much as it costs… Something like a home renovation project from Apropos!

If you’ve been unhappy with the condition of your house for a while but lacked the oomph to do something about it, a renovation project can be a rewarding – and achievable – goal to set yourself. Rejuvenating your home with a glazed extension, whether a simple skylight or a full-frontal double-height atrium, can change the way that you live and the way that you feel about life, as well as enhancing the value of your property.

Aside from the glow you’ll get from achieving a goal (there’s little more de-motivating than a list of things we’ve failed at), your new Apropos addition could well lead on to the fulfilment of other resolutions.

If your kitchen looks and feels wonderful you’re far more likely to use it, cutting back on the amount of cash you splash on the local takeaway joints.

If you have a good, clear view of your garden and easy year-round access, you’re far more likely to maintain those flowerbeds, tackle that mess of bramble, grow your own and feed the birds – you know it’s a good thing to do!

If more light comes into your home thanks to your orangery, roof lights or curtain glazing, you’re less likely to suffer the effects of SAD in winter and so find more get-up-and-go.

If you have a glorious garden room to retreat to, that novel might become a reality.

In a recent survey, 64% of people spoken to vowed to give up something – chocolate/alcohol/smoking – in January 2014, but sometimes changing is as good as quitting… It even sounds more positive! At Apropos we believe in everything in moderation. There’s no point in depriving yourself only to fail part way; life is there for enjoying, you need to get out of it what you can… And if that involves purchasing an Apropos structure, then you won’t hear us complaining!

Happy New Year!
