The Glasshouse Effect

Published on 29th May 2013

Keeping up with the Joneses has almost become a national sport for us Brits recently, but honestly, who wants to just keep up, when with an Apropos glass and aluminium structure you can go one better?

Even in this time of economic strife us Brits are not averse to a bit of neighbourly one-upmanship and in a recent survey conducted by Anglian Home Improvements, 31% of British homeowners admitted to doing up their dwelling just to have the best house on the street, while 16.5% confessed to copycat renovations. That may be all well and good for Anglican consumers, whose identical white uPVC conservatories provide mass production perfection, but why would anyone want a homogenised home?  Here at Apropos all of our designs are bespoke, which means unlike run of the mill Anglican and other uPVC designs, our glass and aluminium structures are tailored around you –making any attempts at imitation from those copy cat neighbours futile.

A white bog-standard uPVC conservatory may be just thing for copy-cat neighbours.

Before: A white bog-standard uPVC conservatory may be just thing for copy-cat neighbours.

For half a century Apropos have been helping customers to turn design dreams into tangible truth  and if there’s one thing we’ve noticed in all that time it’s that nothing will get your neighbours curtain’s twitching like a perfectly placed glass structure. Whether you choose a gorgeous greenhouse, exquisite orangery, or even a simple lean-to, home improvements not only increase your property’s value, but also enhance your health and happiness. Especially when it introducing as much light and space as a bespoke Apropos structure provides. Increased Vitamin D and serotonin are both by-products of natural light exposure and can work wonders on body and mind. How better to improve your quality of light and life than with a bespoke glass extension?

But here at Apropos we like to do things a little differently.

After: But here at Apropos we like to think outside the box.[gallery]

Currently, the south of England is leading the way in UK home improvements, with four times the national average installed over 2012, perhaps highlighting neighbourly rivalry. After all it’s widely acknowledged that most of us host an inner-band-wagon-jumper; that little voice that covets our neighbour’s new car, veranda, or – occasionally – spouse. However, constantly striving to keep up with the Joneses, Williams’, or Dalrymple’s next-door is not a good way to live; it increases our stress levels and empties our wallets. At Apropos we prefer to dwell on the positives – don’t try to join ‘em; get in first and beat them, with bespoke home improvements that were made specifically for you. After all, if you love your own home, you won’t even notice what your neighbours are up to.

At Apropos we have the experience, the skills and the enthusiasm to help you achieve your goals, whether you’re looking for a classic conservatory, an elegant new roof light to transform a drab corner, or an innovative garden structure to seamlessly merge indoors and out. While our designers can capture your imaginative jaunts on paper, our engineers have the wherewithal to make them solid, and we will guide you at every step of the way; from planning permission to completion.
